Team Hassenplug has created a chess set which uses 32 Lego NXT Kits to play out a giant game of robotic chess. Each individual piece contains an NXT kit and is capable of moving to any square on the board using a recursive algorithm that will signal other pieces to move out of the way. In addition to the drive system, each piece blinks LEDs at the opposing king if it is in check or checkmate and the knight and king both have animations as they move around.
